Struktur
Melanotan II (Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH₂) wurde an der University of Arizona entwickelt. Die Lactam-Brücke und D-Phenylalanin machen es wesentlich stabiler als das natürliche Hormon.
Forschungsschwerpunkte
Als Werkzeug der Melanocortin-Forschung dient es zur Untersuchung von MC1R-vermittelter Melanogenese sowie zentraler MC3R/MC4R-Effekte auf Energiehomöostase und Verhalten in Tiermodellen.
