Structure
GHRP-2 (D-Ala-D-2Nal-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂) belongs to the second generation of growth hormone releasing peptides. D-amino acids and the non-proteinogenic building block 2-naphthylalanine increase stability.
Research focus
In studies GHRP-2 triggers marked GH release and – less than GHRP-6 – also raises prolactin, ACTH and cortisol. In Japan it was used as a diagnostic agent for GH deficiency.
Status
Not authorised in the EU. WADA lists GH secretagogues in category S2.
