Structure
IGF-1 DES (1-3) is a naturally occurring form of IGF-1 truncated by the tripeptide Gly-Pro-Glu (67 amino acids). Without these residues it barely binds IGFBPs and is markedly more potent in vitro.
State of research
It is used in cell culture to study the IGF-1 receptor, proliferation and the role of binding proteins; it was originally isolated from colostrum and brain tissue.
Status
IGF-1 DES is not approved as a medicinal product and is on the WADA Prohibited List.
