| Synonyms | Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide, Aviptadil |
Structure
VIP is a C-terminally amidated 28-amino-acid peptide. It acts via the VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors and occurs in the nervous system, gut, lung and immune cells.
State of research
Research covers vasodilation, intestinal secretion, bronchial function, circadian rhythms and anti-inflammatory effects on immune cells.
Status
As aviptadil, VIP has been tested in clinical trials; it has no general marketing authorisation in the EU.
