PT-141 (Bremelanotid)
Bremelanotide, a cyclic melanocortin peptide and metabolite of melanotan II with a free C-terminal acid; agonist mainly at MC4R and MC3R.

Structure
PT-141 differs from melanotan II only by the C-terminal carboxylic acid in place of the amide. This change shifts the receptor profile and reduces MC1R-mediated pigmentation.
Research focus
Animal models and clinical studies examine central MC4R activation. In the USA bremelanotide is approved as a medicine for a specific indication.
Status
There is no authorisation in the EU.
