Structure
Semax combines the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe (ACTH 4–7) with the stabilising tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro. It shows no adrenocorticotropic activity in studies.
Research focus
In animal and cell models Semax is studied in connection with the expression of neurotrophic factors (BDNF, NGF), cerebral ischaemia and gene expression profiles in the brain.
Status
Semax is registered as a medicine in Russia; there is no authorisation in the EU. N-acetyl semax amidate is a component of the neuro blend.
