Structure
Thymosin β4 (Tβ4) is an N-terminally acetylated peptide of 43 amino acids and one of the most abundant intracellular peptides. In research supply, TB-500 usually refers to the synthetic full-length peptide; the name is sometimes also used for the short actin-binding fragment LKKTETQ (Tβ4 17–23). The lab reports for Peptidkauf batches test for Tβ4.
Mechanism in models
Tβ4 sequesters monomeric G-actin and so influences cytoskeletal dynamics. Preclinical work studies cell migration, angiogenesis, modulation of inflammation and tissue repair in skin, cornea and heart muscle.
Status
Clinical studies have focused mainly on topical formulations (cornea, skin). WADA lists thymosin β4 and its fragments in category S2 (peptide hormones, growth factors).
