What is 5-Amino-1MQ?
5-Amino-1MQ is a quinolinium salt (cation 159.2 g/mol, CAS 685079-15-6). It inhibits NNMT, which methylates nicotinamide, a precursor of NAD+. NNMT is particularly active in the fat tissue of overweight humans and mice. The idea: inhibiting NNMT leaves more nicotinamide for NAD+ synthesis and changes methyl metabolism in fat cells.
Research status
In a 2018 study, obese mice given 5-Amino-1MQ lost fat mass, fat cell size and cholesterol without eating less, and in cell culture it inhibited the conversion of precursor cells into fat cells. These findings come from few studies and only from cell and animal models; there are no human or safety data.
Status
Not approved as a medicine. Research use only; also available as capsules and in the NAD+ + MOTS-c + 5-Amino-1MQ blend.
