Structure
Tesamorelin consists of the complete 44-amino-acid sequence of human GHRH, modified at the N-terminus with a trans-3-hexenoyl group. The modification increases stability against degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase-4.
Research and status
As a GHRH receptor agonist, tesamorelin stimulates pulsatile release of growth hormone and IGF-1 in studies. A finished medicinal product is approved in the USA for a specific indication; there is no authorisation in the EU.
Status
WADA lists GHRH and its analogues in category S2.
