What is ARA-290?
ARA-290 (pE-EQLERALNSS, 1,257.3 g/mol), also called cibinetide, mimics helix B of erythropoietin. EPO acts through two receptor forms: the homodimeric EPO receptor drives red blood cell formation, while a complex of EPO receptor and the β-common receptor CD131 mediates tissue protection. ARA-290 targets only the second.
Research status
Studies examine anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective effects, especially in small-fibre neuropathy models, with small early clinical trials. Confirmation in large trials is pending.
Status
Not approved in the EU. Research use only.
