What is cagrilintide?
Amylin is released by the pancreas together with insulin; it slows gastric emptying, dampens glucagon release and enhances satiety. Natural amylin is degraded within minutes and tends to aggregate. Cagrilintide is modified to stay stable and carries a fatty acid that binds albumin, extending its half-life to days. Molar mass about 4,409 g/mol.
Research status
Cagrilintide activates amylin receptors, built from the calcitonin receptor and RAMP proteins, and the calcitonin receptor itself. Preclinical and clinical work examines satiety signalling, gastric emptying and glucagon secretion, with particular attention to the combination with the GLP-1 agonist semaglutide in large clinical trials.
Status
Cagrilintide is not approved alone or in combination. Research use only, without usage or dosing advice. Another amylin analogue in the range is eloralintide.
