What is ipamorelin?
Ipamorelin (Aib-His-D-2Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, 711.9 g/mol, CAS 170851-70-4) contains several non-natural amino acids and was developed at Novo Nordisk in the late 1990s. It belongs to the growth hormone secretagogues, which act on the receptor of the hunger hormone ghrelin.
Research status
The first description in 1998 showed growth hormone release in animal models without a notable rise in ACTH and cortisol, unlike older secretagogues such as GHRP-6. In humans it was tested in a phase 2 trial for postoperative ileus, which missed its primary endpoint; the substance was well tolerated. Human safety data are limited to a few short trials.
Status
Ipamorelin is not approved and is on the anti-doping prohibited list. Research use only. See the blend CJC-1295 No DAC + ipamorelin and CJC-1295 vs. ipamorelin.
